There will be a zine reading and potluck event on Friday October 5th for the Richmond Zine Fest.

Sober, all ages event.

Starts at 7pm at 2005 Barton Avenue

It’s a pizza potluck! We will provide the dough, you bring a sauce or topping!

Vegan/vegetarian/dairy/meat all acceptable for toppings and sauces.

If you are interested in reading from your zine please email xveganarchistrvax@gmail.com or show up with your zine!

The next day Oct. 6 is the Richmond Zine Fest at 1407 Sherwood Avenue / the Gay Community Center of Richmond.  From 11am to 6pm! Free to the public!

The Richmond Zine Fest organizers are again organizing a pre zine fest potluck and reading event the night before the zine fest. Last year’s potluck and reading was such a good time we wanted to do it again.

So Friday October 7th from 7pm to 10pm come join the organizers of the Richmond Zine Fest and both out of town and local zinesters to socialize and share food.

Last year we had a really great time with the zine readings that folks did during the potluck. So if you are interested please bring some of your material to share. This will be a casual event, but if you want to let us know that you plan on reading, please email us at richmondzinefest@yahoo.com

This event is FREE just like the zine fest, but please bring a dish or non-alcoholic drink to share! If you are able to label your dish for allergens (peanuts, dairy, meat, soy) even better! (more…)

At least 2 Wingnuts will be reading from their zines at this event!!!!

Join the organizers of the Richmond Zine Fest (coming to you for the 5th consecutive year in October of 2011) for a night of sharing, laughing, and inspiration.

10pm on Thursday May 12th at Sprout, located at 1 North Morris Street in the Fan.

Sprout is graciously hosting this event, and will be open with beverages and snacks for sale.

We are having people read from their zines, because last year’s Zine Reading Potluck before the Zine fest was so much fun!
The Richmond Zine Fest is excited about the growing Zine Community in RVA.

We are looking for a variety of readers- from poems, to political, to anecdotal or personal, to whatever you have got. We will update this event with a list of confirmed readers over the coming week. Please email the zine fest if you want to read at:

A guest zinester will be coming to the Wingnut on Saturday March 12th to read from their zine/about the potential of queer zines at 6pm! Please come to hear about one person’s perspective on queer zines and have awesome conversations!

Jenna Brager, author of the super-smart comic perzine Sassyfrass Circus and editor of the gender-rewiring zine about facial hair, Femme a Barbe, comes to town for a talk about the history, present, and potential of queer zines.

Jenna makes Sassyfrass Circus (up to issue 6) and Femme a Barbe (up to issue 2 working on 3) and also working on a new zine about archiving. More about Jenna and their projects here: http://sassyfrasscircus.wordpress.com/

The Zine Reading potluck at the Wingnut on Friday October 15th was a huge success. There were around 30 people in attendance and we heard from 7 or 8 different zinesters. 2 out of town zinesters as well as people old and new to Richmond read. Some of the readings were entertaining, some personal, some poetry, some spoken word, and some very political. They represented a good  mix of the types and content of zines. There were many yummy dishes- from vegan muffins to mac n ‘cheese’ to fake bologna sandwhiches.

It was really relaxing and pleasant to share food and stories with so many nice people. The Zine Fest organizers in attendance were really excited about the turnout. We hope this is just the beginning of the development of a supportive and dynamic zine community in Richmond.

If you are coming from out of town for the Richmond Zine Fest, or from Richmond, get together the Friday before to meet and hang out with zinesters!

So Friday October 15th from 6pm until bedtime!

This will be a potluck event held at the WIngnut which is a sober all ages space in Richmond.

It would be awesome if some folks wanted to read selections from their zines. Please email us at richmondzinefest@yahoo.com if you are interested in reading or playing music! (more…)
