We have just confirmed the venue for the Barton Heights Community Association Meetings- Triumphant Baptist Church, which is at Lamb Avenue and Poe St. We will be meeting in the basement.

The September meeting will be on Tuesday September 11th at 6:30 pm.

Please help spread the word to your neighbors in Barton Heights!

We had 1 meeting in July, and you can watch the video from that here: Video of First Meeting of New Barton Heights Association

And then we also organized an August National Night Out Event which happened on August 7th.

Please come out, and bring your ideas for the neighborhood!

Today was the first time the Wingnut Anarchist Collective brought the Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry to Southern Barton Heights.

Prior to today’s event, the Wingnuts had distributed 100 food vouchers throughout the neighborhood. The Food Bank truck arrived at 12 and we helped the awesome folks from the  Food Bank set up the tables and distribution. By 1 there was already a long line of folks waiting for food.

Over 115 people went through the line today to get food. They represented 392 people in the Southern Barton Heights Neighborhood, based on the number of folks in the households they were representing.68 children, 153 adults, and 71 seniors.

Food that was given out included: Romaine Lettuce, Soup, Fig Newtons, Pop Tarts, Cereal, Spaghetti and Meat Balls, Green Beans, Pears, Sweet Potatoes, Juice, Pasta, Crackers, Bagels, Pancake Mix, Salsa, and Turkey.

There will be 100 vouchers available for the event next month  at the Wingnut at 2005 Barton Avenue. The event will be on the second Saturday of August, which is August 14th, and 1pm, at the Parking Lot adjacent to the Goal Post restaurant at 2400 North Avenue.

The Wingnut Anarchist Collective has organized with the Food Bank of Virginia to bring the Mobile Food Pantry to Southern Barton Heights. This will be  a monthly event, where the Food Bank brings food for about 100 households. Each person will receive groceries ranging from canned goods to bread to produce to meat to toiletries.

It will be on the second Saturday of each month at 12 noon at the Parking lot next to the Goal Post at 2400 North Avenue. There will be vouchers for 100 people. Any additional people will be served as food is available.

If you know anyone in the Southern Barton Heights Area who needs more food, please get in contact with us so we can get them a voucher. Especially if you are aware of people with limitations on mobility please let us know so we can reserve and deliver food to them.  Call 804 303 5449 or stop by 2005 Barton Avenue.

Volunteers are needed to show up around 11am to help set up the tables and food, and then help organize the distribution. The Southern Barton Heights Community Association is partnering with the Wingnut on this program. They will be assisting in the maintenance of the parking lot, which the Goal Post is graciously allowing us to use.  Hopefully folks from the Southern Barton Heights Community Association will also help with the distribution of food- they are certainly welcome to.
