Our little sign in solidarity, and against the pipeline!

Driving through Churchville on 250 is a pleasant experience this time of year. The trees are turning lovely colors and many folks have gone all out decorating for Halloween. I should have taken some pictures of both of those things.

Instead, I stopped numerous times to photo the many No Pipeline signs folks had in yards and on fences. Some were from the Augusta County Alliance – a group worth checking out, but there were many homemade ones as well, all pulling on different reasons that the proposed natural gas pipeline by Dominion Resources (sister company to Dominion Power) is a bad idea and a bad fit for these areas. For more background on this issue you can read our previous article here.

I was very impressed by the level of visual resistance shown in these communities. The local paper where I was, the Highland Recorder had numerous articles and interviews on the topic as well.

In solidarity with folks in all the counties threatened by this pipeline, here are some visuals from the resistance in the area.

This Fall, there will be a 3 part class on Colonization and Decolonization, meeting at the Wingnut Anarchist Collective on Tuesday nights at 8:30pm.

Autumn is a season when there are many reminders of colonization and the history of oppression, racism, and genocide that Amerikkka was founded on. From Columbus Day to Thanksgiving there are plenty of celebrations of colonization. We are choosing to take time to learn more about the real history of colonization and indigenous peoples during this season. We welcome folks with an interest in learning more about these issues to participate in this 3 part class.

The meetings will be at 8:30 pm on Tuesday September 20th, Tuesday September 27th, and Tuesday October 4th.

Richmond does not have a full fledged Free School, although this is something that folks at the Wingnut and others have been talking about for a while. We found the manual “Colonization and Decolonization – A Manual for Indigenous Liberation in the 21st Century” by Zig-Zag aka Gord Hill (Author of 500 years of Indigenous Resistance), and decided that we would like to do a class with the text. The text is already divided into 3 sections making for 3 hour long sessions. (more…)

For anyone who might be in Pennsylvania this week, here is an announcement about counter actions to fascists who will be rallying. The Wingnut stands in solidarity with communities struggling against fascism.

Call to Action: Bringing the Antifa Hooliganism Back to the 717. On June 19th, Aryan Nations plans to hold a rally at the Gettysburg National Military Park from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM to spread their racist and anti-Semitic ideology. (more…)
