According to the City of Richmond’s Property Search and Tax Assessment data, the assessed value of the land that Dwight Jones’ house sits on has dropped 64,000 in the past year.

Mayorstaxassessment

We all know that the market fluctuates, and that the functioning of the real estate market under capitalism is largely speculative and prejudicial. But what is very interesting here, is that the Mayor’s neighbors did not receive the same sorts of lowered assessments. The amount taxed on 64,000 at the current rate would be approx. $768 dollars annually. While not a ton of money, we all know that every little bit counts, especially when our schools, parks, and public transit are hurting like they are.

Raymond Boone of the Richmond Free Press, who allowed Occupy protesters to camp on his lawn in 2011, lives next door to the Mayor. Here are his assessments:Boone

MayorBoonAsses

Boone’s property is about half an acre larger than the Mayor’s, which does not seem to explain the giant discrepancy in land values and assessments.

Another of the Mayor’s neighbors, with a much smaller parcel, did receive a lower land assessment, but it does not seem in proportion to what the Mayor received.

To recap our friend ran the numbers on square foot value:
Mayor’s land: $0.27/sq ft
Boone’s land (2 parcels): $0.86/sqft and $0.69/sqft
The smaller parcel referred to with its new LOWERED value: $1.41/sqft

Ok, so apparently larger parcels get lower value per sqft?…

http://map.richmondgov.com/parcel/

If you zoom out from the mayor’s land, the two larger nearby pieces of land as you look slightly south are $0.42/sqft and $0.40/sqft (for a 1.5million sqft $600k piece of land).

The mayor must be living over a toxic dump.

We can not speak as to whether or not Dwight Jones had or has any knowledge about this assessment discrepancy, but it seems potentially problematic, and certainly deserves an explanation if not an inquiry. It would be a shame if the Mayor himself were not paying appropriate taxes into the City of Richmond.

Civil Rights Attorney, Tom Roberts, who has previously represented members of the Wingnut Anarchist Collective, and also spoke to ABC to confirm the complete legality of our posting publicly available information online like the Mayor’s address, was shocked to see the drop in the assessment of the Mayor’s property, and suggested that an inquiry be made into the matter.

If you would like to explore this issue more, please check out the City’s property finder application. It is a very helpful tool for many applications. http://eservices.ci.richmond.va.us/applications/propertysearch/default.aspx

The address of the Mayor of Richmond’s top secret bat cave was revealed by the Wingnut Anarchist Collective in a scathing online post, encouraging writing of letters, legal protests and explicitly discouraging illegal actions.

Richmond Police have responded to the imminent threat of letters and demonstrations by increasing their rounds near the Mayor’s house tonight. Apparently the 400,000 dollars spent annually to protect the Mayor is not enough to combat the potential guilt or discomfort he might feel if being called out for his actions to privatize Monroe Park and put at further risk some of Richmond’s most vulnerable citizens.

The secret location of the Mayor’s Bat Cave, which the Occupy RVA movement camped out next to in 2011, was deviously discovered by the Wingnuts on the City of Richmond’s own website. As it turns out, public officials are public, and indeed that info is public knowledge. http://eservices.ci.richmond.va.us/applic…/propertysearch/

Members of the Wingnut Anarchist Collective are meanwhile enjoying cookies in bed and mixing beats on the rainy evening. Most likely in a highly threatening manner… like chewing with their mouths open. The arrival of news crews  to talk about this imminent threat disrupted the malicious naps of their adorable dogs.

If we didn’t know better it would seem as though the Richmond Police Department was wasting time and money to try and manufacture a threat that does not exist, and distract the public from information regarding the bad neoliberal practices that the Mayor and City Council are pushing forward.

NBC12.com – Richmond, VA News

While recognizing the limited efficacy of both consumer boycotts and petitions, we hope you will check out the new Petition which pledges to Boycott the Richmond Squirrels and supporting businesses if Mayor Jones’ plan to desecrate Shockoe Bottom with a Baseball Stadium is pursued. In this case, the economics of the plan are the major goal of the capitalists and developers behind the proposal. We aren’t asking for them to change their hearts, we are promising to hurt them where they care – their wallets. Please check out the link below, and sign, share, and get involved in the many other actions taking place to prevent a baseball stadium from being paid for with public money on historical ground.

We, the undersigned, stand in opposition to the Mayor’s Shockoe stadium proposal. There are many reasons to oppose a stadium in Shockoe Bottom: the questionable finances of the developers’ plan, parking, traffic, leaving the best and most accessible site for baseball in the city and disrespecting the incredible history of what once was the largest slave-trading district north of New Orleans. Some of us are county residents who do not want to travel into the Bottom for a baseball game.

As long as the Shockoe stadium proposal is still a threat, from this point forward we promise to boycott the Flying Squirrels’ baseball games and other supporting businesses. This is not something we take lightly- many of us like the Flying Squirrels and recognize the harmful economic effect that this boycott will have. However, with the Mayor and proponents not allowing a referendum or citizens’ vote on the Shockoe stadium proposal, and in effect muting our political voice, we have decided it is time to exercise our economic voice.

Sign the petition “Mayor Dwight Jones: We Are Boycotting Flying Squirrels/Shockoe Stadium Proposal” on Change.org.

It’s important. Will you sign it too? Here’s the link:

Dear Opponents of the Shockoe stadium development,

Below is an email I sent this morning to the members of the City Council’s Land Use, Housing and Transportation Committee.  You will see at the end of the email that I am asking for those who agree with my position to send these members of Council an email with the subject line: The Timmons Analysis is a SHAM!  Email addresses are a part of the forwarded message.  I also ask that people show up at next Tuesday’s 3pm meeting.  Feel free to bring a sign that says The Timmons Analysis is a SHAM! and I will be making a lot of signs to hand out as well.  Please forward this email to anyone you know who opposes or has concerns about the Mayor’s plans in Shockoe.  Thank you.

Rick Tatnall

For the documents in question please check out the Replenish Richmond Website!

Dear Chairman Baliles and Members of the Land Use, Housing and Transportation Committee,

I have been pressing City Council since November to recognize that the infrastructural foundation of the Mayor’s Shockoe stadium development plans, the Timmons Traffic and Parking Analysis, is so unscientific, flawed and incomplete that it cannot possibly be considered as valid.  The Timmons analysis is a sham, which Webster’s defines as “One who assumes a false character: IMPOSTER”.  The Timmons report pretends to be a scientific assessment when it has disregarded almost every significant and relevant traffic and parking consideration, including:
  * Timmons used 2008 numbers that do not consider the 1,135 apartments and condos that have come online in the past 3 years (more…)

Councilman Hilbert held a 3rd district community meeting about the Revitalize RVA plan for a baseball stadium in historic Shockoe Bottom on Feb. 5 at Pine Camp on Northside.

Farid Alan Schintzius noticed that someone had placed in the medians and other public areas pro- shockoe stadium signs, clearly targeting anyone headed to the meeting.

image

Signs in the median on Chamberlayne still there on the morning of the 6th.

Who funded these signs and who illegally placed them in the public right of way, in a shady attempt to influence citizens is not known. What we do know is that Loving RVA and the Mayor have been engaging in underhanded and corrupt measures to use their money and power to push through the baseball stadium plan. Just this week it was revealed that a full page ad for Loving RVA was published in a tax payer funded parks and rec publication, which is not even supposed to have ads in it.

The signs have now been removed from everywhere we found then and we are going to use them for a more worthy cause.

image

Join us and many many community groups and members at the City Council Meeting on February 24th at 6pm to insist that Council say No to the irresponsible, disrespectful, and corrupt Revitalize RVA plan.

And if you happen to see any of these signs illegally placed around town, you know what to do.

There is a scheduled Land Use meeting at City Hall on Tuesday February 18th at 3pm, where the proposal for the privatization of Monroe Park will be presented by Alice Massey.

Please come out with friends, signs, and voices to be heard. It is imperative for the freedom of citizens of Richmond, the houseless, low income, radical social movements, and spontaneous events that we STOP the City from leasing Monroe Park to any private party, and STOP there from ever being a permit process or fee for holding events in our public commons.

Everyone!

On Monday, Nov. 25, Richmond City Council will consider a critical resolution on the mayor’s proposal to put a baseball stadium in Shockoe Bottom. It’s not a legally binding resolution, but would put the council on record as being in favor of the proposal. This would be a big pubic relations victory for the mayor. Every council member is getting deluged with emails and phone calls about this issue and we are hearing they may decide not to vote, which would be a huge victory for our side.

This is a real battle. The deep-pocketed, pro-business group Venture Richmond has hired a public relations firm to promote the mayor’s plan. Or, more exactly, the developers’ plan being fronted by the mayor. They were able to turn people out for Tuesday’s Land Use Committee meeting, which we also attended. They had more people there, but we had more people willing to speak, and that was the message the media carried.

WE NEED EVERYONE WHO CAN MAKE IT TO BE AT MONDAY’S CITY COUNCIL MEETING – 6 pm, Council Chambers, 2nd Floor, Richmond City Hall, 900 E. Broad St. Showing up is half the battle and we don’t want to lose this fight.

People are also needed to attend council’s Finance Committee meeting at 3 pm Thursday, Nov. 21. And please speak to the issue if the spirit moves you. It helps.

One last thing: The mayor says that if his plan is adopted, the city will gain net tax revenues of up to $187 million over the next 20 years. But he says If it builds a new stadium on the Boulevard, it will still gain half that amount. We say, keep baseball on the Boulevard and develop a historic district and major tourist destination in Shockoe Bottom and you’ll make even more in the long run, from taxes on hotel rooms and meals for the millions who would travel here in years to come. And you will avoid further cementing Richmond’s image as a backward, Confederate-tainted town that cares more about profits than respecting its Black history.

And whether or not you can make the meetings, please make sure you sign the online petition against the stadium – we’re close to 2,000 signatures! See http://shockoebottom.blogspot.com

TO THE SITTING MEMBERS OF RICHMOND CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR’S OFFICE

We have watched with displeasure the most recent crimes of the Richmond City administration and its petty ambitions; it sells its soul to the rapacious FIRE sector and throws its citizens to the wolves to appease the never-ending greed of its shadowy elite. There is no change in Richmond, only the quiet hum of the Jones Machine and the avaricious stare of the sitting mayor, dancing obediently on the strings of privileged and secret interests. There is no hope in Richmond, only despair for those who remember the lessons of the past. There is no voice in Richmond, only a pathetic handful of ‘local’ media sources who are content to take their pittances from corporate masters while their city rots around them. The corruption leaking from every pore of the city is indicative of its inability to understand or accept its own past.

In this city once flourished the most oppressive and disgusting form of business ever created by mankind: the slave trade. Human beings were bought and sold like chattel by the hundreds of thousands based solely on the color of their skin. From Richmond, blacks were shipped all over the country to sweat, bleed, and die at the pleasure of white slave-owners. The scars of this atrocity still bleed and fester in the forms of institutionalized racism and economic apartheid against people of color.

For too long Richmond’s elites have systematically manipulated and disenfranchised its black majority through regressive economic policy, criminally negligent spending priorities, mock elections, and shadowy real estate deals. Jackson Ward was obliterated by white elites to make room for an interstate highway. Navy Hill’s earthly remains consist of a marker found in a parking garage by a local professor. The black children of Richmond’s school system suffer from a 75% poverty rate. Black preschoolers attend a program for disadvantaged youth on top of an unlined dump in a school that was built during the era of Jim Crow. Huge swathes of East Broad Street were gentrified to make way for the Richmond Convention Center and CenterStage Theater, a coup for the conspicuous consumers that make up Richmond’s elite patrons and coordinated by Bob Mooney, former chief financier of Richmond-based Ethyl Corp. Monument Avenue’s statuary stands as false exoneration of the ‘heroes’ of the Civil War; ‘heroes’ whose greatest achievement will forever be marked as failing to win the war they fought so desperately to win.

Decades ago, the discovery of the Burial Ground for Negroes (now Richmond’s African Burial Ground) by Elizabeth Cann Kambourian under a parking lot in Shockoe Bottom began the decades-long struggle towards the reclamation of the nation’s second-most-successful slave market by the inheritors of its legacy of cruelty and hate.

Now, as Richmond’s black residents continue to make progress to regain their past and right the great injustice that white supremacist power has laid upon them, the white land barons have again mobilized to murder the threat of black power in its crib. The specter of the Shockoe Ballpark has been resurrected by Richmond’s criminal capitalist class under the guise of ‘growth’ and ‘wealth.’ The charge is in part led by one H. Louis Salomonsky, an unrepentant capitalist sent to prison several years ago for bribing a public official in a failed bid to swing a mayoral election; his cries of “community!” serve merely to increase the value of his many real estate holdings through wasteful public expenditure projects. His tendrils, and those of others like him, extend far into local politics; the real estate sector outspends the next highest industry in Richmond political campaigns by two to one.

We call you out, Dwight Jones. Your 2012 unopposed mayoral election garnered you $314,499 in funds; $43,350 came from the land barons and their interests, with $2,500 alone from Salomonsky and his subsidiaries. Over the course of your sixteen-year political career, the landlords have bribed you for $135,917.

We call you out, Charles Samuels. Your 2012 election garnered you $63,225 in funds; $10,850 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your four-year political career, the landlords have bribe you for $24,250.

We call you out, Chris Hilbert. Your 2012 election against a neophyte social worker garnered you $41,702 in funds; $5,155 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your eight-year political career, the landlords have bribed you for $43,472.

We call you out, Kathy Graziano. Your 2012 election garnered you $96,838 in funds; $12,450 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your eight-year political career, the landlords have bribed you for $71,706.

We call you out, Ellen Robertson. Your 2012 unopposed election garnered you $12,110 in funds; $1,000 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your nine-year political career, the landlords have bribed you for $29,525.

We call you out, Cynthia Newbille. Your 2012 unopposed election garnered you $17,166 in funds; $1,300 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your three-year political career, the landlords have bribed you for $4,100.

We call you out, Reva Trammell. Your 2012 election garnered you $65,141 in funds; $6,645 came from the land barons and their interests. Over the course of your political career, the landlords have bribed you for more than $20,095.

We are watching you, Jon Baliles. Bruce Tyler was sold to the landlords for only $82,307.

We are watching you, Parker Agelasto. Martin Jewell was sold to the landlords for only $20,600.

We are watching you, Michelle Mosby. Douglas Conner was sold to the landlords for only $29,400.

We demand that the city permanently halt attempts by its white landowners to build a ballpark in this critically important district and commit fully and transparently to enacting recommendations by the Richmond Trail of Enslaved Africans Commission for a heritage site in Shockoe Bottom.

We will be watching.

WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
WE ARE LEGION.
WE DO NOT FORGIVE.
WE DO NOT FORGET.
EXPECT US.
