From our comrades to the south- Chapel Hill Prison Books, here is your monthly update and political prisoner birthday poster:
Hello Friends and Comrades,

Here is the political prisoner birthday poster for February. As always,
please post this poster publicly and/or use it to start a card writing
night of your own. We’re still experimenting with the format a little, so
this month is also a double sided 11×17 that can also be used as a poster
to promote your local letter writing night.

This month’s poster is dedicated to Aaron Swartz. Here is an article we
posted about his life and death.

Luke O’Donovan has been released. His bail was 35K. He is in very high
spirits and is currently resting with his friends and family. Luke has
still not been indicted and there is still need for much more money to
cover lawyers and legal costs.

Accused Earth Liberation Front arsonist Rebecca Rubin has been transferred
again. Please write her letters of love and support. Remember, she is
still pre-trial so please avoid writing about anything to do with her

Or come by the Wingnut this month during Open Hours to pick one up! (Wed. and Fri. 4-9pm or call ahead 804 303 5449)

Since the August Really Really Free Market got rained out, you might have missed your opportunity to write the political prisoners who have birthdays in September.

Fear not! With most of the month left to go there is plenty of time. You can download the September Political Prisoner Birthdays poster (created by the Internationalist Prison Books group from Chapel Hill North Carolina)  online here:

We also have print copies available at the Wingnut, if you wanted to come by Open Hours sometime this month to pick one up!

Come on out to the September Really Really Free Market on the last Saturday of September from 12 to 3pm at the corner of Main and Laurel to join the Richmond Anarchist Black Cross in writing letters to Political Prisoners. Material and guidance provided!

The Richmond Anarchist Black Cross will be taking a field trip to Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Saturday September 17th!

We are primarily going to talk to people involved with the Internationalist Prison Books project, so we can learn from them as we think about starting a Books To Prisoners program as part of Richmond’s Anarchist Black Cross. We will also be checking out Internationalist Books in Chapel Hill. This will be a great chance to network regionally between groups fighting the prison industrial complex and doing work to support political prisoners.

If you came out to the Mysterious Rabbit Puppet Army show at the Wingnut and enjoyed it and want to get involved in work around prison issues this could be a great way to learn more and meet Richmonders as well as North Carolinians interested in the same things.

More about these organizations here:

and here:

Depending on what else Chapel Hill has going on that weekend and the schedules of Richmonder’s who want to come we might go down for Friday night and stay through Saturday day, or maybe go down Saturday morning and come back Sunday morning. If people are interested in going please get in touch so we can figure out a schedule that works for the most people possible! (more…)

Come join the Anarchist Black Cross at the monthly Really Really Free Market (on the last Saturday of every month) to write letters to prisoners who will be celebrating their birthdays the following month. We will have a table set up with instructions, addresses and descriptions, envelopes, and people to help answer any questions. to get in touch!

We will be using the prisoners’ birthdays posters created monthly by the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective, and will also have additional prisoner addresses available.
This is a monthly event that will repeat every last saturday of each month.

This event occurs from 12-3pm at the corner of Main and Laurel in Monroe Park. Come on out to support political prisoners and talk to people interested in prison abolition.

In case you missed us in July, here is a link to the poster for prisoners with birthdays in August! Please take the time to write someone in support, it means a lot!
