Tuesday, August 7th is National Night Out.

Barton Heights, and our newly re-forming neighborhood association will be celebrating in Yancey Street Park (At intersection of North Avenue and Poe Street). We will start at 6:30 and go til dark!

There will be food to grill (vegan, vegetarian, halal options) and anyone who wants to can bring a dish to share!

There will be local organizations tabling, entertainment in the form of a DJ and/or movie, a Know Your Rights training, and a Really Really Free Market (free clothes, books, cds, etc. anyone is welcome to bring items to give away).

More details coming as we work them out. Please save the date and plan on attending! email wingnut_collective@yahoo.com if you have questions/concerns/want to help!

And also- don’t forget that the next Barton Heights Neighborhood Association meeting will be on Tuesday, Sept. 11th at 6pm. Tell your neighbors, and let’s get the community out to talk about how to make Barton Heights a better place for us all!

A Really Really Free Market (RRFM) is a community gathering where participants bring, and give away absolutely free, andy usuable items, skills, ideas, talents, friendship, excitement, discussion, games and many other things that we as a community can come together and share. A RRFM is a 100% free and non-commercial event, creating a gift economy as an alternative to the normal way of buying and selling.

If this sounds like something you’d like to be involved with, we’d love to have your help.

– If you have any ideas for things you’d like to see at the Really Really Free Market, get in touch with us.

– Contribute something to the free market, spare stuff that you have around your house or work, some kind of entertainment, or a skill that you’d like to share with your community.

-Tell your friends about this thing, the more people who show up the better it’s gonna be.

November’s Really Really Free Market – an excellent alternative to holiday consumerism- will be happening tomorrow from Noon until 3pm in Monroe Park at the corner of Main and Laurel.

The weather looks great- sunny and 65- so come hang out!

Bring your excess belongings to give away- books, clothes, movies, food, appliances, music, and more! Come discover the treasures of community events and maybe a knick knack you like.

Also, letter writing at the Really Really Free Market:

Come join the Anarchist Black Cross at the monthly Really Really Free Market (on the last Saturday of every month) to write letters to prisoners who will be celebrating their birthdays the following month. We will have a table set up with instructions, addresses and descriptions, envelopes, and people to help answer any questions. rvaabc@gmail.com to get in touch!

We will be using the prisoners’ birthdays posters created monthly by the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective, and will also have additional prisoner addresses available.
This is a monthly event that will repeat every last saturday of each month.

This event occurs from 12-3pm at the corner of Main and Laurel in Monroe Park. Come on out to support political prisoners and talk to people interested in prison abolition.

Richmond’s Really Really Free Market is celebrating 3 years this April!

Come join the community on Saturday April 30th from noon until 3pm at the corner of Main and Laurel in Monroe Park. Bring your excess and unwanted things- food, books, cds, movies, clothes, furniture, knick knacks, paddy whacks (no live animals though), to share with other people. Its good for the environment, its good for your wallet, and its good for building community. Anyone is welcome to come and take anything that they want or need- you don’t need to give something to get something.
The Really Really Free Market shows just one possible alternative to the capitalist market.

This weekend is also May Day weekend, which includes workshops on Saturday and Sunday, as well as a rally and parade on Sunday. There will be out of town people around, so hopefully the RRFM will be a fun place to hang out. You can find out more about these events at http://www.maydayrva.org

Please bring games to play, music to play, balls or frisbees to throw around etc.
Anyone interested in performing, giving workshops, tabling with free literature etc. is more than welcome to.
As always, folks are encouraged to make their own fliers to advertise this event.

This event and more can be found at http://www.rvaradicalendar.blogspot.com

Around 15people continued the Occupation of Monroe Park last night, despite the rain and bad weather. They build their own tent structure and hopefully stayed fairly dry over the night.

If you can’t make it to Wisconsin or if you don’t know what to do to stop TRAP, or if you are looking for a place to stay, or if you don’t want to see over 60 trees cut down, or if you are tired of the criminalization of the homeless, or if you are tired of how oppressive the capitalist system is etc. – come Occupy Monroe Park.

Occupy Everything!

Just a reminder thatthe November Really Really Free Market is going to be tomorrow from noon til 3pm at the corner of Main and Laurel in Monroe Park!
