Please email if you have events that should be included in the calendar.   We try to get these updates out about every two weeks.

TRANSIT UPDATE:   Our Transit Action Team is working to make the public transit system in Richmond better.  We know that plans are in place for a new Bus Rapid Transit line on Broad Street.  We want most of all to make sure that current bus riders benefit from proposed improvements to the system.   To ensure the input of current bus riders we have been canvassing bus riders for a few years now.  In the next few weeks we will be re-contacting folk we talked to in the past (on May 14) as well as canvassing bus stops on May 19. If you are interested in helping contact bus riders please email

FUNDRAISING:  Virginia Organizing is a statewide non-profit citizens organization that depends on the support of individuals like you to continue.  You can make a donation to Virginia Organizing on line at or mail a check to 703 Concord Ave, Charlottesville, VA   22903.  Virginia Organizing plans to double its strength in the state over the next two years.

MEDICAID EXPANSION:  The struggle for health care in Virginia continues as the state cannot agree to expand Medicaid to cover about 400,000 Virginians.  The expansion will be funded almost entirely by federal money and will provide a significant economic boost to the state.  Currently the governor and the State Senate support Medicaid expansion while the Virginia House of Delegates opposed expansion.

COMMUNICATIONS:  The Richmond Area Chapter of Virginia Organizing has two main means of communication.  We have occasional complete updates like this one.  We use these to share information and calendars.   We also have a googlegroup that allows two way communication and discussion of issues, as well as more timely updates.  Please email if you would like to be added to our googlegroup.

Richmond Listening Project:  The Richmond Area Chapter is doing a listening project, talking with folks about the challenges and opportunities of organizing in Richmond.  If you are interested in joining this conversation, contact Bob Becker at or phone him at 804-937-0752804-937-0752
